Avel (Vocals) and Void (music) are Fade Dreams, an intense atmospheric black metal act from the Ukraine that specialize in creating fully immersive soundscapes that reflect bitterness, loss and the inevitability andsadness of fading dreams. It is honest, uncompromising and emotional . The debut album Fading Dreams of Youth makes quite a statement both musically and lyrically.
‘’Thank you, it’s important for me that you appreciate our work like this. It didn’t take much time to create. We have significant musical experience, so technically, it was possible to finish in a matter of weeks. However, the emotions, ideas, and thoughts had been forming in our hearts and minds for many years.

Is it a reflection of the loss of innocence when confronting a very unfriendly world?
What influences helped create it?‘
’Very beautiful and thoughtful question. Yes, partly, and perhaps mostly, the album is about this. The foundation of the experiences is of course personal — the loss of childhood and happiness, but its interpretation and transformation into a creative act happened under the influence of Rousseau, Cioran, and Schopenhauer. I want to note that you can only feel and understand this if some innocence and childhood still remain in your soul. As we grow older, we lose not only naivety but also the ability to enjoy simple things. We realize the absurdity of existence and our limitations. Therefore, part of childhood should remain... Extend childhood and joy to your children.

A lack of truth and understanding? Is bitterness and sadness the result of this?
‘’Perhaps, on the contrary. In Milton, Adam and Eve lose their innocence after tasting the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Similarly, growing up is the confrontation with reality, which turns out to be far from childish illusions. Therefore, knowledge brings many sorrows. However, understanding and truth, knowledge can help. For this, not just knowledge is needed, but also Awareness.
The album is also very atmospheric. How important are additional textures in your music?‘
’Void is a wonderful musician, and he feels the atmosphere perfectly. Adding textures always precisely highlights and strengthens the music.
Is this where the light of hope comes from? How would you describe it?
‘’If childhood is paradise, and growing up is expulsion, then hope exists in the form of nostalgia. It is the light of a distant star that has already gone out, but its shine still reaches us. As long as creativity exists, our hope will not fade completely. And in our children, it finds continuation, becoming part of the future.
Is a twisted reflection the result of external forces changing your original perceptions?
‘’No. I don’t think so. Hell is other people. In them, we see the distorted reflection of reality. Although, of course, there are people in whom we see both truth and ourselves.
The links to DSBM...‘’DSBM is an important genre, and its emergence is not accidental. Although genre boundaries may be blurry, it still reflects significant ideas embedded in the music. Yes, primarily, I am a musician, and my work is not limited to just the extreme scene. However, it is important for me that the DSBM scene recognizes me as a significant figure. That would not only be flattering but also truly important to me.

Is your music more of an emotion rather than a genre?‘
’There is indeed a lot of emotion in it. Probably, this is the most emotional work of my life. And the next album FD will be the same. But it can definitely be called a genre.
How do you turn your emotions into music?
‘’It’s still the brilliant work of Void. He’s a professional of the highest level, and he does everything so well that it seems like magic. The vocal part and style are just a surge that instantly forms inside me and bursts out.
What inspired you to pursue extreme music ?
''First of all, I simply love quality music, and that alone determines a lot. Also, I was a reading and thinking child, which inevitably placed me in confrontation with the surrounding world. I never sought to conform to accepted norms, I was a nonconformist, and that also played a role in choosing this musical direction. And of course, I must mention the influence of my family — my parents were fans of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple... All of this together, like many small bricks, formed a solid foundation for my love for extreme music.

Final thoughts?‘
First of all, I want to thank you for such deep and thoughtful questions. Honestly, these are very subtle and interesting questions. Thank you. It was a pleasure to talk not only about music but also about philosophy, emotions, and the meanings behind it. I thank everyone who listens to our music, who feels it the same way we do. Your support and understanding make all of this truly meaningful. Stay honest with yourself, keep searching for truth — and let music be a light in the dark.
